The San Francisco Board Of Supervisors has “passed an ordinance that will require meals to meet certain nutritional guidelines if restaurants wish to include a toy with the food purchase.” Which means that meals that don’t meet nutritional requirements can not have toys in them. So, no more Happy-Meals for the kids. Meals for kids must meet strict nutritional requirements with respect to fruit, vegetable and multigrain options.
In my opinion, McDonald’s doesn’t qualify as a restaurant and the food they serve…well, can you really call it food?
You and I both know that 95% of the food served in fast food restaurants is unhealthy and should never be consumed by human beings. Now, I will come clean here. I like to have a Big Mac on occasion. But, keep that between you and me…I don’t want my secret getting out…LOL!!! It’s a treat, a break form the norm. But, it’s food that should not be consumed on a regular basis. We should all know this by now.
But, I don’t think the government should tell us what we should or shouldn’t eat. New York City has banned trans fat oils and is now putting legislature together that will try to ban salt from all restaurants….salt? What’s next? Veal Parm? Why? Because it’s fried and will clog your arteries and kill you.
Without a doubt McDonald’s should take responsibility and serve better quality food. But, It’s your and my responsibility to make the right choice. Not the government.
I know what you’re saying. “That food is killing our children.” Maybe so. But, it’s the choice we make that’s killing our children…not the food. If you don’t know my education is natural health. I’m a chiropractor, a certified clinical nutritionist and have been studying natural healing and nutritional healing for over twenty years. I know how deadly and destructive fast food can be.
But, I think they are missing the bigger problem. Families don’t sit around the dinner table enough and eat good home cooked food and talk about the issues of the day. Nutritious healthy food is rarely discussed. Families pop boxes into microwave ovens or pick up fast food and call it dinner.
This is the reason I tell all the guests in our restaurant to come and bring there families to Arthur Avenue. To see all the shops and stores that are family run and passed down through generations. To experience family tradition. A sense of coming together and enjoying good food, family, and friends. A tradition I know has shaped my choices in life. Especially food choices. This is what San Francisco doesn’t get. It’s not the food that hurts you…it’s the choice you make.
Arthur Avenue – The Real Little Italy in The Bronx, New York stresses family tradition. It’s a destination you and your family can count on to give a great example of what family tradition is all about. My definition of a “Happy-Meal” is sitting around the dinner table with my family, enjoying great home cooked Italian food, and talking about the issues of the day with my family. And, of course, you can always bring your family to our Arthur Avenue Restaurant. Ann & Tony’s Restaurant’s roots are deeply embedded in family tradition. We’ve been serving “Happy-Meals” since 1927…LOL!!!
So, the next time your here on Arthur Avenue stop in and see me, “Cousin Ralph” and let’s sit and have a “Happy-Meal”
See you soon.
